Just Let Go

pre-dawn
stars grow dimmer
darkness fades
now
deep blue fades
into
the soft glow
coming
coming
coming

peeks out
first between the nook of
Aldape Summit
- little summit -
between
two other summits
diminuitive
yet chosen today
to be the place
where rising sun casts light
into valley
onto valley
in a widening V

south sides
of the mountains left behind
in shadows

for now

meadowlarks and starlings
sparrows and unknown birds
sing
chirp
call

someone
is speaking to
this
heart

just let go

how many heartbeats have you
ever
had to
think about?

how many breaths have
you
controlled?

how hard did you work
and plan
and fret
to make me rise today?

look!

here
i am
rising
breathing
beating
calling
chirping
singing

what is that
thing
you are holding?

what is that
thing
you are carrying?

what is that
grasping and clasping
of the hands?

what is that
closing and protecting
of the heart?

what is that
fretting and ruminating
of the mind?

perhaps i shall let
you
beat your heart?

perhaps i shall let
you
breathe your breath?

perhaps i shall let
you
give the birds their song?

perhaps i shall let
you
rise as a glowing orb
upon the world
over
and
over
and
over?

perhaps i shall
remind
you
to
let
go?

let go
let go
let go
let go

did you not hear the song?

did you not see the darkness
giving way
surrendering
accepting
releasing?

imagine a day
when
and
where
you don’t have
to beat
your heart
and
breathe
your breath
and give the birds their song
and rise upon this world

wait

that day is today

i rise
to find
this computer
to type
what i have heard

such profundity!!

and as i make my way downstairs
to get it
and then back up
with it
i feel as if the perfect words
are already disappearing
as quickly as the shadows
on the south side of the mountains
that are almost not shadows
now
i sit down
and open this contraption
and it is a blank screen
staring at me

damn battery!

come on!

and i am trying to hold on
to the words
because they were so good

but here i am waiting
and they are flowing by like
ripples on the river

damn!

i grow hot and try to
hold
on

until

i see my reflection in the blank screen

and it is laughing at me
because this is it!

the song!

right here
in this moment of
holding on
reminding me
of letting go

and i laugh
we laugh
and i can no longer see the blank screen
because my eyes are closed
and my face is raised to the east
and i am letting go
and i am letting go
and feeling with this glow
seeing with this glow
being with this glow
